KidneyMate is operated by Jordi Rodriguez ("KidneyMate", "we", "us", or "our").

This Privacy Policy explains what information KidneyMate collects and processes, why we use it, how it is handled, and the choices available to you.

KidneyMate is designed to help users organize kidney-friendly recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, pantry items, and nutrition preferences.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your personal information for behavioral advertising.

• Authentication information necessary to maintain your account and session

Your password is handled through our authentication provider and is not stored by KidneyMate in plain text.

Health and Nutrition Preferences

You may choose to provide information such as:

• Nutrition preferences
• Health considerations you choose to select within the app

These may include health-related considerations such as kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, or other conditions supported by the app.

This information is used to personalize the app experience. KidneyMate does not use this information to diagnose a medical condition.

Recipes and User Content

We may process content you create, save, or modify, including:

• Recipes
• Ingredients
• Instructions
• Serving information
• Nutrition information
• Recipe notes
• Recipe tags
• Recipe books
• Meal plans
• Grocery-list information
• Pantry information

Recipe Imports

KidneyMate allows you to import recipes using:

• Text you paste into the app
• A website URL you provide
• A photo or screenshot you select or capture

When you use AI-assisted recipe import, the submitted content may be processed by our server infrastructure and by an AI service provider in order to extract and structure recipe information.

Images

If you choose to scan a recipe from a photo or screenshot, that image may be temporarily processed to extract recipe information.

If you choose to save an image as a recipe photo, that image may be stored in cloud storage and associated with your account.

2. How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Create and manage your KidneyMate account
• Provide recipe-management features
• Provide meal-planning features
• Generate grocery lists
• Maintain pantry-related information
• Personalize nutrition displays
• Import and structure recipes
• Store recipe photos you choose to save
• Synchronize your information across sessions
• Protect accounts and prevent abuse
• Enforce service and usage limits
• Maintain and improve service reliability
• Process account-deletion requests
• Respond to support and privacy requests

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not use your health-related information for advertising.

3. Service Providers

KidneyMate relies on trusted third-party service providers to operate certain features, including account authentication, secure cloud storage, service infrastructure, and AI-assisted recipe import.

When you use AI-assisted recipe import, recipe content you submit may be processed by OpenAI solely to provide that feature. Depending on the import method, this may include pasted recipe text, recipe content retrieved from a URL you submit, or a recipe photo or screenshot.

KidneyMate does not send your KidneyMate password to OpenAI.

4. Website Recipe Import

If you submit a recipe URL, KidneyMate may retrieve content from that webpage in order to identify and structure the recipe.

The URL may also be stored with the imported recipe as source information.

KidneyMate does not use this feature to monitor your general browsing activity.

5. Data Storage and Security

KidneyMate uses technical and organizational measures intended to protect your information.

These include measures such as:

• Account authentication
• User-specific database access controls
• Private storage for user recipe images
• Server-side handling of privileged credentials
• Usage limits and abuse protections

No online service can guarantee absolute security.

6. Data Retention

Your account data and saved content are generally retained while your KidneyMate account remains active, unless you delete individual content or request deletion of your account.

Temporary information used during processing may be retained for shorter periods.

Certain limited records may be retained when reasonably necessary for:

• Security
• Fraud and abuse prevention
• Legal compliance
• Resolving disputes
• Verifying or completing deletion requests

7. Account Deletion

KidneyMate provides an in-app account deletion feature.

When you delete your account, KidneyMate initiates deletion of data associated with your account, which may include:

• Profile information
• User-created recipes
• Meal plans
• Grocery-related information
• Pantry information
• Recipe books
• Stored recipe images

Some deletion operations may continue in the background after the request is initiated.

Certain limited information may be retained when required by law or where necessary for legitimate security, fraud-prevention, or compliance purposes.

8. Your Choices

Depending on the feature, you may:

• Edit or delete recipes
• Edit your nutrition preferences
• Remove recipe images
• Modify meal plans
• Modify grocery and pantry information
• Sign out of your account
• Delete your KidneyMate account

You are not required to provide every optional health consideration or nutrition preference offered by the app.

9. Children's Privacy

KidneyMate is not directed to children and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

10. International Data Processing

Our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live.

Where required, applicable legal and contractual safeguards may be used for international transfers of personal data.

11. Health Information

Information relating to health and nutrition can be sensitive.

KidneyMate uses health-related information you choose to provide to deliver features directly to you and does not use that information for behavioral advertising.

We may update this Privacy Policy when KidneyMate's features, providers, legal requirements, or data practices change.
